El Buzon - A hidden kitespot

In the hot summer days when the Embat gets stronger every day, the beaches of Majorca are more and more filled with bathers and the spots where you can do kitesurf decrease.

There are different reasons for this: summer laws have to be observed, the shipping traffic around the Balearic Islands is increasing and many beaches change into huge swimming pools for tourists where kitesurfers or any other kind of ships are not allowed to enter.

 In these days, the kitesurfers divide into 3 groups:

The biggest group you can find in the Bay of Pollensa, between Sa Marina, a residential zone of Alcudia, and Port of Pollensa. Sometimes you can count there more than a hundred kites in the sky or kitersurfers on the water. Many of them are newcomers accompanied by an instructor and they are gaining their first experience with kite and board.

• The second group you can find at Can Pastilla, near the airport of Palma, but here the majority of the kitesurfers is expert because the open kitezone begins in a distance of 200m offshore and you have to use a channel for passing the swimming area what calls for advanced skills in kitesurf.

• And last but not least, there is El Buzon a hidden spot in Playas de Muro. There are some kilometers where no hotel is situated close to this beach and the entry through a housing estate appears like a labyrinth. For this reason there are only a few bathers on this beach.

“Todas las playas de Mallorca” – all the beaches on Majorca, unfortunately only edited in Spanish as a “beach-guide”, thanks of the magnificent work of author Miguel Ángel Álvarez Alperi together with editor Laluzenpapel.

For the first time a printed work shows Majorca as exceptional kite-spot.

On page 43, titled "Kite, Wind y Surf", you can find the following statement of Autor Miguel:

 “Skiing, flying and surfing on Majorca – all in one – that´s kitesurf, the momentarily most favored aquatic sport on Majorca, on which you are skiing, surfing an flying over the waves at the same time. Let´s bet you didn´t know that this island is one of the best spots in Spain for windsurf and kitesurf. There are special places where the Embat blows perfectly for doing this amazing sport.”
